Fondue&Fondue (old west, close to Vondelpark and Leidsesquare)
If you like fondueing as an activity, go here. It doesn’t matter if you like cheese or not, because they also offer a great meatfondue, fishfondue and even chocolatefondue to top it all of. The best one is the trufflecheese one, though. So get over your anti-cheese vibes and try it.
Believe us, a visit to Fondue&Fondue is well worth the overload of calories. Perfect to begin your night out with, because it’s located close to Leidsesquare.
Also, it might be smart to make a reservation beforehand, this place is really popular.

Café Bern (city centre, Nieuwmarkt)
The Nieuwmarkt, right behind the red light district, is a place we cannot recommend enough for you to visit. It’s a pretty square surrounded by multiple café’s and little restaurants which are frequented by both locals and tourists. For Mexican food, go to Los Pilones (not actually at Nieuwmarkt, but who cares right), for nice beers and a pubcat, go to Café ‘t Loosje. But, the reason why you really really should visit Nieuwmarkt has to do with cheese. At Café Bern, you will find the best cheesefondue ever. This is a really, really simple, old fashioned café. Meaning: if you order a steak, you get a steak. No sides, no fries, maybe a small portion of a super simple salad. Some people come here for a decade strong and will continue to visit probably the next decades. Long story short: don’t expect anything fancy, but dó expect the best fondue (and steaks) of your life.
Fondue Oost (East, Indies Neighbourhood)
Although located in the ‘Indies neighbourhood’, where you can get everything from parathas to samosas and back, you can also enjoy yourself a good plate full of cheese. At Fondue Oost, formerly known as ‘Bar James’, they serve mussels in wine in summer, and cheesefondue in winter. And not just a simple one. You can choose between traditional, truffle, ‘El nacho’ (Mexican style with jalapeño’s, nachos and queso fresco), blue cheese, bacon and fennel, and sides like corn on the cob or a tomatosalad.
The restaurant invites you with ‘our little pans are ready and hot waiting for you in our kitchen!’. So go there and enjoy!
Bistrot Des Alpes (city centre, close to Rembrandtsquare) Bistrot Des Alpes serves ‘real Alpine cuisine’. What’s in a name. But yes, that means lots of cheese, (raclette and cheesefondue) and wine. Maybe even gluhwein? Consider yourself back on the skis or the snowboard, but without the snow. And in Amsterdam. You can choose between cheesefondue with porcini mushrooms, cheesefondue with charcuterie, or both, or a traditional one (with bread and vegetables). Enjoy des Alpes!
Mr. & Mrs. Watson (East, Watergraafsmeer) Last but not least, for all the vegans among us, a cheeseless cheesefondue. Say what?! Your heard it right, Mr. & Mrs. Watson make their own ‘cheeses’ without any animal products. In fact, they are so good at it, that the cheeseplatter is their best sold product, and so is their cheesefondue. Made with cashews, served with bread, vegetables and a nice salsa verde. If you can’t get enough, get the cheeseplatter for dessert. Oh yes, we’re going there.
